Lower Bowens Creek North Canyon

Come for a fun day out, to practice your abseiling, rock hopping or scrambling skills exploring a branch of Bowens Creek. A beautiful canyon, with some refreshing swims and interesting abseils!

There is also the option of camping at Cathedral of Ferns campground on Saturday night, for anyone interested in spending the evening by a campfire (Jess and I will be there).

This trip is for people who have:
– completed Abseil Skills 1,
– have a reasonable level of fitness, comfortable with scrambling around boulders, logs and other obstacles,
– comfortable with jumping into a pool of water from a height
– are able to swim at least 50 meters unassisted
– be able to tolerate chilly water (the water in the mountains is cold!)

Gear you will need (the club can provide equipment if necessary)
– Headtorch (Club can provide)
– Emergency blanket (you will need to provide this)
– Compression bandage (you will need to provide this)
– Harness + Personal Anchor System (safety line) which includes a carabiner (Club can provide)
– Helmet (Club can provide)
– Descender (for example ATC Guide, Reverso or rappel rack) (Club can provide)
– 1x Carabiner for your descender (Club can provide)
– Wetsuit (specify size – XS,S,M,L,XL – club can provide)
– Dry Bag (Club can provide)
– Canyon pack (Club can provide)
– Gloves (specify size – S,M,L – club can provide)
– Lunch and snacks
– 2L of water
– Warm clothes – Please bring a raincoat/wind jacket, beanie and warm clothing (thermals, fleece etc) as it can get cold in the canyon once you stop moving
– Dry clothes/shoes to leave in car

When requesting to join the trip please state:
– Experience with abseiling and canyons
– What gear you need
– Are driving and can provide a lift
– If you are interested in camping the night before
– Vaccination Document Number
