orienteering
I’m organising next week’s Sydney Summer Series event in Chatswood. Think amazing race just 900m from Chatswood train station. It’s a great way to get/hone navigation skills.
The Sydney Summer Series is a series of orienteering events held every Wednesday evening in a different suburb of Sydney from October to March (www.sydneysummerseries.com.au). Next week’s event will start at the Chatswood Girl Guides Hut on Angle St, Chatswood. Upon registering you are given a map showing 30 controls that are each worth 10, 20 or 30 points for a total of 600 points. Your aim is to collect as many points as possible in the 45 minutes that you are allowed to spend on the course. For every minute you return late you lose 10 points. You can start any time you want between 4.30pm and 6.45pm. You can walk, run, skip, etc by yourself or in a group, over a terrain comprising streets, park and bush tracks. No need to book, just turn up. It’s $12 for members and $15 for non-members with a $4 hire fee for the electronic timing stick.
There is a discount if you enter online beforehand here: https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/5404.
