Hello Wanderers,
We have some navigation skills under our belt now. I’ve found the best way to hone those skills is through fun and sport. When I first joined the club, I honestly had no idea about these activities. I tried a rogaine one weekend when Angelo posted it, and it frankly changed my life. It was addicting like climbing- it used my grit, critical thinking, organization, and athleticism. I spent the next few months harassing anyone I could to form a team for the next event (it was Navshield, which is how I ended up with the Godwits – Susan, James, and Adam, but I’ll tell you that story at the end).
Even just proof-reading this event is making me itchy to get out there with you guys. Hopefully we’ll have some regulars on the zoom call to tell stories.
I’ll cover the 3 main activities our adventure club partakes in:
- Adventure Races
- Orienteering
- Rogaining
For each, we’ll dive into
- Description and history
- Skills, fitness, and experience recommended
- Relative costs, format, locations, etc.
- Annual highlights (e.g. Championships and Navshield, Sydney Summer Series)
- The basics of how to get started and involved
