First rogaine of the year is going local!

Rogaining is a cross country navigation sport AKA the “sport of thought.” You will have 3 hours to collect controls placed on the map, each worth points based on difficulty – or just because the route setters want to lure you to something cool they found! Your challenge is choosing which ones you’ll get to in the time limit. Gotta tag ’em all?

This short event allows individual, as well as team, entries (though it’s generally more fun with a buddy). With a mix of bushland and suburban terrain, and comparatively short distances involved, this event will be an excellent way to test out the sport and shake off the holiday stupor.

I’ll be volunteering for much of the event (I lived on Koola Ave for a year, so Been There Done That), but I’ll happily match teams and help out with some keen novices.

Let me know in the comments if you’ll be wanting any compasses, map cases, or light first aid to borrow from the club (you can also purchase compression bandages and thermal blankets from us). I can also help you find a team. Some of our regulars already have their dedicated nav-mates. Please let me know when you book, because the system saves your “usuals.”

Here’s the actual event page and description:

“This year’s 3-hr Minigaine will be set around the leafy suburban plateaus of East Killara & Lindfield. The surrounding bushland ridges and creek-lined valleys of Garigal National Park provide great views of the upper Middle Harbour – just a few kilometres north of the recent Paddy Pallin Rogaine at Willoughby. The course offers something for everyone with plenty of route options through the streets, parks, public gardens, undulating firetails or challenging mountain goat tracks for the intrepid.”

Can’t wait to get back out there.
