All Day
climbing skills workshop

Good day adventurers,

This skills course prepares attendees to top-rope safely outdoors on rock-climbing trips with the club. No experience is necessary, but a few visits to  a local climbing or bouldering gym are strongly recommended (besides which, you’ll need climbing shoes, and you’ll have no idea what a good fit is without having climbed in some).

Fair warning, if you don’t provide any information in your signup, I will choose those who have done so before reaching out to you.

We’ll go to a relatively local crag, where the scouts learn to abseil and the walls are high — Wahroonga Rocks.

What we’ll cover:

  • Risk management: Crag and edge safety
  • Equipment: use, evaluation of integrity, maintenance, ratings, soft and hard gear
  • Climbing communication and buddy checks
  • Top rope belaying
  • Basic climbing technique

Gear required:

Club can lend

*******

  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • Personal anchor system (if you don’t know what that is, assume you need one)
  • Belay device

********

Must have own:

  • Climbing shoes

Please list the gear you’d like to borrow in the relevant field.

We look forward to seeing a bunch of new climbers get a feel for real rock.
