canyoning
A coffee at sunrise. Grab your harness and helmet. Pack your bags and get ready.
We’ll be heading down to the Wollangambe and back up along a ridge on the other side to head to one of the best canyons the Blue Mountains have to offer.
Whungee Wheengee is an intermediate canyon and has some good abseils, a few duck-unders and long stretches of spectacular, narrow, dark canyon. See the details here: https://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/whungee_wheengee.htm
Toby and I will be taking you to this amazing canyon as part of this year’s Megafest. It’ll be a fairly long day but we’ll be rewarded with a spectacular canyon.
This trip is for you if:
– You have completed Abseil Skills 1 or equivalent
– You have some canyoning experience
– You’re able to get on/off abseil without assistance
– You have a good fitness level for the long entry and exit and can tolerate cold water
– You are comfortable with duck-unders in dark sections of the canyon
When & where:
– Saturday, 3rd December
– Mount Wilson (not far from the Megafest campground)
Personal gear (compulsory)
– sturdy/grippy shoes
– an old pair of shorts to protect the wetsuit
– simple first aid kit (definitely an emergency blanket)
– sun protection (e.g. sunscreen and hat)
– rain protection (rain jacket)
– change of clothes for the walk in and out (if needed, e.g. long pants, t-shirt)
– snack & lunch (for this trip only; you need to bring lunch and dinner for the whole megafest weekend)
– 2 L water (for this trip only; you need to bring 5-6L for the whole megafest weekend)
Abseiling gear (club can provide)
– helmet
– harness
– personal anchor system + carabiner
– descender + carabiner
– canyoning pack and dry bag
– headtorch
Camping gear for megafest weekend (club can provide; pls see the trip post on megafest weekend)
The club will provide you with abseiling and camping gear for the trip. If you have your own gear you are welcome to bring it.
