abseiling
Safety checked, descender checked. Unscrewing the gate of your safety, you can feel the squeak vibrating on your fingertips, hear the heartbeats deafening your ears, sense the uneasiness plucking your bones. This discomfort, this thrill, at least for me, has never gone away.
Step by step, you can feel every single pebbles rubbing under your shoes more and more clearly, you feet become heavier and heavier. Suddenly, you smear some of the sand into the vast emptiness and could practically hear every speck of sand hitting on the leaves tens of meters below. You can’t help but stare at the pattern of the rope, thinking about thousands of fibres that are thinner than your hair holding your weight and more, and noticing interwoven yarns with millions of tiny holes soaking up dust and sand; every speck buried alive in your live rope.
This is a beginner abseiling trip to Malaita Wall. There’re 5 pitches, with the longest cliff sitting at 45m. Pls visit the trip report for details.
