canyoning
Oh yes, you read that right – we’re gonna spice it up for the end of this canyoning season with an 80s Aerobics theme in a canyon!
If this is what you’ve been waiting for, sign up!
If you’re thinking to yourself ‘what the hell’, well then sign up, too!
And if you don’t even know what Aerobics is, sign up, google it and go totally crazy!!!
As far as I’m aware, this is an OAC first, so here’s your chance to make (club) history!
I’m posting this trip a month in advance because all participants will have to buy and bring their own outfits. There’s plenty of choice on ebay, amazon and other online stores – just google “aerobics costume”.
We have not yet decided which canyon we’ll be heading to, but it will be an easy to intermediate canyon, also depending on the experience levels of those signing up for the trip.
As an absolute minimum, this trip is for people who:
– have been waiting their whole lives to do a dress-up canyon!
– have completed Abseil Skills 1,
– have a reasonable level of fitness, comfortable with scrambling around boulders, logs and other obstacles,
– comfortable with jumping into a pool of water from a height
– are able to swim at least 50 meters unassisted
– be able to tolerate chilly water
Gear you will need (the club can provide equipment if necessary)
– Harness + PAS (Club can provide)
– Helmet (Club can provide)
– Descender (Club can provide)
– Wetsuit (specify size – XS,S,M,L,XL – Club can provide)
– Dry Bag (Club can provide)
– Canyon pack (Club can provide)
– Lunch and snacks
– 2L of water
– Any additional layers you want to wear under your wetsuit
– Old shorts to protect the wetsuit
– Raincoat, longsleeve, thermal for the hike in and out
– Dry clothes/shoes to leave in car
– Your 80s Aerobics outfit!!! Go totally crazy people! (We’ll wear this over our wetsuits (obviously…), so please factor this in when selecting the size of the outfit you’re buying!)
When requesting to join the trip please state:
– Experience with abseiling and canyons
– What gear you need (including the size of wetsuit)
We can pick up some of you from UTS Building 10 and give you a lift.
Hope to see you there!
