canyoning
G’day adventurous people,
Next Sunday, Sean and I are planning a trip down Surefire Canyon on the Newnes Plateau.
It looks like an epic trip through a remote wilderness canyon
https://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/surefire.htm
The main challenges of this trip will be the very long (and likely scrubby) entry and exit, it’s a round trip of 20km. The remote nature of this canyon also means the anchors and abseils may be less than ideal. I’m expecting it to take 12+ hours car to car, so we’ll be camping up there Saturday night, and leaving very early Sunday morning.
For this trip you will need
– previous experience with abseiling and canyoning
– a high level of fitness
– to be confident with tricky exposed scrambling (essential for the exit)
– to be able to camp in the mountains Saturday night
– to be ok with getting back home potentially late Sunday Night
Let us know your previous canyoning/abseiling/hiking experience, and also what gear you need to borrow from the following list
– Helmet
– Drybag
– Canyonpack
– Harness
– Descender
– Wetsuit (include size, XS, S, M, L, XL)
See you there!
