[FULL] Abseil Skills 1 – Afternoon Session

Hi all,

It’s canyoning season, and that means the club’s been running a lot of canyons. Which is exciting… if you can attend them. A vital prerequisite is Abseil Skills 1.

On Sunday the 14th of Jan, Sam, Pete, Hartnell and I will be running an Abseil Skills 1 trip. So, if you’ve been missing out on canyoning but are keen to get involved, then this is for you!

The weekend after (20th-21st), Sam and I will also be running a couple of beginner canyons, targeted towards our new abseilers. So be sure to sign up for one those too.

WHAT?
This course will teach you the skills you need to abseil safely, including how to:
⁃ Maintain personal safety in a potentially hazardous environment
⁃ Learn and identify all equipment used in Abseiling
⁃ Prepare for an abseil
⁃ Conduct pre-abseil safety checks
⁃ Abseil Communication between the top and bottom of cliffs
⁃ Perform a variety of abseils
⁃ Negotiate common abseil hazards
⁃ Perform fireman belays

WHEN AND WHERE?
⁃ We will meet at 1:30pm on Sunday the 14th of Jan
⁃ The course will be conducted at Clovelly Cliffs. The 339 bus from Central gets you straight there.

WHAT TO BRING?
⁃ Closed, grippy shoes
⁃ Sun protection
⁃ Snacks
⁃ Plenty of water
⁃ Hair ties/a way to tie long hair back

Rope, harnesses, helmets and all other safety equipment will be provided by the club.
