RS1 at Bangor West

Hi UTSOAC adventurers!

Henry and I will be running Rock Skills 1 at Bangor West this Saturday 17 Feb. This trip is best for people with some indoor climbing skills wanting to transition to outdoors 🙂 It’s a prerequisite for future outdoor club climbing trips.

• Location: Bangor West, near Menai, less than an hour’s drive south of UTS
• Date: Sat 17th Feb
• Time: 09:30 – 3:30pm

What to Expect:

A theory session, followed by a number of top-rope climbs. We’ll cover: 

• Leave No Trace principles in climbing
• Understanding climbing equipment and how to use it
• Figure 8 knot
• Personal safety near cliffs
• Pre-climb safety checks
• Communication between climber and belayer
• Safe belaying techniques

When registering, please include a brief note about your prior climbing experience. Failure to do so may impact being selected for this trip, so jot that info down! 

An email will be sent out to accepted participants with more info on the above. The club can supply all gear except climbing shoes. While it’s not required to have climbing shoes, we do recommend them to help you grip the rock and climb with better technique.
