Hi all,
Get out the fine china! Megan, Elaine, Hamza and I will be running a dress-up canyoning trip down Yileen Canyon on the 23rd of March. The dress-up theme is Victorian high tea – picture tea time with Alice and the Mad Hatter…
As part of your dress-up, you must bring one plate of food that fits the theme. Biscuits, cake, pastries – the fancier the better! The plan is to find a nice place to stop in the middle of the canyon to have high tea!
Yileen is a pretty canyon on the south side of Bells Line of Road in the Blue Mountains, nearly 2 hours drive from Sydney. It is named after an Aboriginal word for ‘dream’. REQUIREMENTS
You must:
⁃ have completed AS1
⁃ have done at least one or two canyons in the past
⁃ be comfortable with heights (Yileen Canyon ends with a 50m abseil!)
⁃ have a decent level of fitness (there is a lot of elevation gain on the hike out)
⁃ be comfortable scrambling and swimming
WHEN AND WHERE
⁃ Saturday the 23rd of March

⁃ If we have enough cars, we’ll do a car shuffle and leave one car at the picnic area (our ending point) and drive to the Mount Wilson Road turnoff (our starting point): https://maps.app.goo.gl/38gkcGwVuACzfWqq8?g_st=ic
⁃ We will aim to be back at the cars by 4pm
WHAT TO BRING
⁃ Wetsuit (club can provide)
⁃ Helmet (club can provide)
⁃ Harness (club can provide)
⁃ PAS + Carabiner (club can provide)
⁃ Descender (club can provide)
⁃ Canyon Pack (club can provide)
⁃ Abseiling Gloves (club can provide)
⁃ Dry Bag (club can provide)
⁃ Grippy Shoes (Not hiking boots. Old sneakers work well. They will get wet and trashed)
⁃ 2+ L of Water
⁃ Lunch + High Tea Snacks
⁃ Swimmers/something to wear under your wetsuit
⁃ Something to wear over the pants of your wetsuit to protect it (either old shorts or a part of your costume)
⁃ A way to tie long hair back
⁃ A change of clothes + towel for the car
Don’t worry about the “Gear I need” section, I will send out a spreadsheet to organise this later.
In the signup info, please list what canyons you have completed in the past, and what food you will bring for high tea.
