rogaining
Hello all,
It’s baaaaack! Navshield is an annual off track navigation competition, much like the other Rogaines in our calendar, but a tad more intense. It’s used as a training exercise for Bush Search and Rescue, and many other similar organisations. Unlike the other rogaines, you’ll get your map the night before. And this is because you’ll have to plot your own points with provided grid references. You’ll also be correcting for magnetic declination and other fun skills that may be collecting dust on a shelf. For that reason, I recommend you have a couple other events under your belt before trying this one. That being said, if you just want to hang out and see the area, go for the 1-day event and take it easy.
Read here for more background on Navshield and its rules and quirks:
We’re going to organise teams ASAP, because we’ve missed out before! Get your entries in before it sells out. Emergency services don’t have to pay entry, so they grab seats early.
The mysterious location for this event is TBA; it’s always a bit of a secret until the map is finalised. It is a LOOONG drive from Sydney though, so I recommend planning to leave work early on Friday to get there in time to chart up your map and settle into camp. Stu and I are coordinating this event, so I will not be competing. However, a solid strategy is to get your map from base, go to a nearby tavern for a good meal and sleep, return in the morning to compete. I’ll let you decide within your teams, but I’m happy to help coordinate matchmaking and logtistics.
