Hi all,
Nuwan, Niamh, Ehren, and I are running Rock Skills 1 first Sunday after O’day; this is mainly for our new folks. If you’re a new TL, this is also a great opportunity to shadow instructors. If you have prior learning, we may also have time to knock out other endorsements if you arrange them beforehand.
Successful completion of UTSOAC Rock Skills 1 allows you to participate in top-rope climbing with the club. Most local crags aren’t the best actual cliffs NSW has to offer, but they’re easy to get to and easy to get practice on Not-Dropping-Each-Other. We’d start around 0900 and finish around 1600.
Make sure you detail your climbing experience in the Sign-up information. Or at least say your favourite colour.
We will cover:
– Cliff safety
– Equipment
– Pre-climb buddy checks
– tying into a rope
– Communications/calls
– Top-rope belaying
– Basic rock climbs on top rope.
The club can provide you with climbing gear for the trip, please Cut & Paste the following into ‘Gear I Need Section’ when signing up (if you don’t know the name of something, you probably need it):

– Helmet
– Harness
– PAS + Carabiner
– ATC + Carabiner

Climbing shoes are strongly recommended. You’ll have a miserable time compared to those who have them. You may be able to borrow some from other club members (or buy for cheap) on the club discord.
