Hey all,
Mid year break is finally upon us (except trimester people, R.I.P.), and Minifest is right around the corner!
On the Friday evening of minifest (the 27th), Sean and I will be running an evening of land based fishing local to the campsite, likely from a nearby wharf, we are planning to go to Greenwell point.
Target species will mostly include dusky flathead, yellowfin bream, bass?! and a few others so hopefully we can catch some dinner and have a cruisy evening!
Whether your a complete beginner, or Jeremy Wade this evening is the one to be at!
The plan is to arrive around 4/5p.m. as some of us will be climbing before hand, a better estimate will be given closer to the day, and following that we will be heading to camp for the night!
Gear:
- Fishing gear – Whilst we can help supply fishing rods and some basic tackle, I recommend checking anaconda and BCF, as there are lots of deals on fishing gear at the moment. Even cheap “kids” or “teens” fishing gear can be good beginner equipment for a cheap price so feel free to reach out for advice on equipment! – UPDATE – the club may be receiving some rods, an update will be provided to those who get accepted.
- Warm clothes! It’s getting cold so bring some warmer clothes to help you keep warm, especially on the water in the evening!
- Snacks and drinks – Bring any evening snacks or drinks – you might like to bring, some spots have some nearby fish and chips so we may walk down and grab some hot food if we have no luck
- Chairs – it’s always nice to chill out and sit whilst fishing, especially towards the end of the day
- Fishing license – this is super important as you LEGALLY cannot fish without one – but they are pretty reasonable! More information below
- Gold Coin Donation: Please bring a few dollars to put in for some bait, as we will be bringing some with us and it goes a long way 🙂
- Head torch – Since we are beginning later in the afternoon it will likely get dark so a head torch is a must. I will also bring a small spotlight.
Fishing License
Everyone who attends MUST get a recreational fishing license before the trip but its easy to get online!
$7 for a 3-day pass
$35 for an annual license (I recommend as I plan to run lots more fishing trips this year!)

To join:Â
Sign up and let us know what gear you may need!
Preference will be given to those with cars, although of course arrangements can be made for those in need of transport.
PLEASE NOTE: if you need camping gear, let us know as early as possible as most gear will be brought on Saturday so we will need to pick it up 🙂
To make sure you read everything, on a scale of 1 fish to 10 fish, how hyped are you for mid year break? (R.I.P. semester people) (and people with big person jobs).
See you out there!
