canyoning
Hi all,
On the 11th/12th of October, Arthur and I will be heading out to tackle three Blue Mountains canyons south of Bells Line. These canyons are a bit wet, but don’t have any real swims, so they will hopefully be ideal for the early season. While not the most spectacular canyons the Blue Mountains have to offer, these canyons are still pretty and should make for a fun weekend out.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
⁃ good fitness – canyoning is mostly walking, and we’ll try to cram two canyons in on the Saturday, which means double the walking.
⁃ AS1
⁃ Some experience off-track hiking, or hiking on faint trails – we’re not quite sure what the trails will look like, if they exist!
⁃ Please list your experience (any canyons/hikes you’ve done recently) in your signup
THE PLAN:
⁃ Day 1 (Saturday the 11th of October): we’ll drive up to the Birrabang and Better Offer car park, meeting there at 8:30 am. We’ll then do Birrabang Canyon, exit out the exit gully, and immediately drop into Better Offer Canyon, before returning to the cars. We’ll then all head to Cathedral Reserve Campground for the night.
⁃ Day 2 (Sunday the 12th of October): we’ll pack up camp then head to the Kamarah car park, do Kamarah Gully Canyon, then return to the cars and head home.
GEAR:
You will need canyoning gear. The club can provide:
⁃ Canyon Pack
⁃ Helmet + whistle
⁃ Harness + PAS
⁃ Descender
⁃ Spare carabiner(s)
Please copy-paste any of the above items you need into the ‘Gear I need’ box. You also need camping gear, and food and water for each day. We can talk more about what you need to bring closer to the date.
