Paddling on Sydney Harbour at dawn is pretty special. The water has had all night to settle down. It’s so still that it looks like glass as we launch our kayaks into it. Sure, getting there for the 0600 start is rough, but you quickly twig that these are stolen hours like no other – and for at least a moment, the harbour will be all ours.
We’ll see a pack of kayakers out there from Lavender Bay Kayaks. They’ve each paid $105. We’re a smaller group (in better boats) and it doesn’t cost you a cent :).
Meet behind the hall at 1 Munro Street, McMahons Point. There’s parking for four cars and good transport connections via train, metro, bus and ferry.
You’ll need to bring:
– Enclosed shoes that can get wet
– Hat with a good brim
– Sunglasses
– Wind/waterproof outer layer if it’s windy
We’re not kidding about bringing sunnies and a hat! It’s really unpleasant paddling into the dawn sun without them.
Priority will be given to those attending the Paddle Skills 1 course running this semester.
Cheers,
stu & salome
