Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a UTSOAC Trip Leader?
Have you looked at the people leading our club adventures and thought you’d like to do the same, but didn’t know how to get started?
Maybe you want to relive some of your favourite club trips and lead them yourself.

Here’s your opportunity!

All Trip Leaders must attend this workshop before they can begin leading trips. Participants should ideally have been an active member of the club for around a year. If you have significant prior outdoor experience, please mention this in the comments when signing up.

This workshop is designed to introduce you to what it means to be a Trip Leader and the steps required to become one.

Who is this for?

Our club runs a wide variety of trips with different skill requirements, ranging from easy day hikes to multi-day canyoning expeditions in remote wilderness areas.

We don’t expect you to be an expert in everything. For example, you don’t need to be a whitewater canyoner to run an easy day walk. What we do expect is that you are a responsible person who can make safe decisions and recognise what is within your ability to lead. This is different from what you might be comfortable doing as a participant.

Remember, as a Trip Leader you are the person others will look to when things don’t go to plan.

What the workshop will cover

How to organise and plan a trip and post it on the website

Safety considerations, environmental responsibilities, and insurance matters

A brief introduction to club equipment and storage

Why become a Trip Leader?

Becoming a Trip Leader comes with a number of benefits:

Mentoring and support from experienced Trip Leaders

Free club membership if you run four trips in a year

Access to club gear for private trips

Access to our first aid course reimbursement program

Priority access to skills courses so you can start contributing to the club sooner

The workshop is currently scheduled for 30 March, though the date may shift slightly depending on sign-ups to accommodate more people.

If you’re ready to start your journey, sign up and tell us about your experience and the kinds of trips you’d like to run.

See you there,

Sean
