leader training
skills workshop
Hello everyone, Join us for a weekend of learning and practising rescue skills essential for any advanced adventurer or anyone looking to lead roped trips into the outdoors. This trip is primarily aimed at assistant trip leaders looking to become full trip leaders and as such will be prioritised.
Please note this is an advanced trip requiring a strong understanding of self rescue, rigging and general rope mobility. For this course to be successful it is important that all participants not only know these skills but know them well and can do them in a timely fashion, as we will build upon them and apply them to difficult scenarios. If you do not meet these competencies to the expected level it will affect the progression of the group as a whole.
In your signup please leave a detailed description of your experience so we can make accurate judgements about competency.
If you are unsure if you meet the requisite skills feel free to signup and list what you can do and what you are missing or contact me and we can go from there.
Prerequisites:
– confident independent abseiler
– vertical self rescue skills competency (or able to demonstrate it).
– abseil rigging systems competency.
– should have a reasonable amount of experience rigging releasables in canyons.
– should be able to ascend 20m continuously without breaks in under 15 minutes.
– must be comfortable passing knots and transitioning onto and off of devices mid abseil
Skills Notes:
Rope Rescue Skills Notes
Vertical Self Rescue Skills Notes
Abseil Rigging Systems Notes
Day 1: Training Day
We will work through the content listed in the rope rescue skills notes document. It is important that participants familiarise themselves with the content of this document before the day so that we can focus on practising the techniques rather than learning them.
Day 2: Multi Pitch abseil rescue scenarios
As a group we will head out to a multipitch abseil and work through various scenarios on each pitch. These scenarios will bring together the technical roping skills covered over each course and combine them with leadership and decision making to bring the theory into the real world.
See ya there,
Sean and Zen
