abseiling

Hi folks,

Wanna learn how to abseil and get ready for the upcoming canyoning season? Or you already have the skills, but need a refresher after a long bushfire / covid break? Then, join us for an Abseil Skills session in Glenbrook this Saturday (Oct 31st). Depending on the weather, we might add a short hike (possibly with a dip in Glenbrook Creek) after the skills session.

What we will cover (basics):
– Cliff safety
– Safety checks prior to an abseil
– How to abseil (descend a rope in a controlled fashion using a rap-rack or ATC)
– How to fireman-belay

What we might cover (extras, depending on the group skillset):
– How to abseil with a prussik backup
– How to prussik up the rope
– How to set up and inspect anchors
– Basic knots for canyoning

Please, let us know your skills / experience with abseiling or climbing in the field below. The gear will be provided by the club.

We will give preference to those who can bring a car.
