Organizer:
Gordon Wing-Lun
Date/Time:
Date(s) - Friday 30 December, 2022
8:30 am - 2:00 pm
abseiling

WHERE:
So we are all meeting up at Lindfield Rocks which is located next to the Tryon Road Tennis Courts, on Tryon Road , the driveway located 40 metres East of the Archibold Road intersection.
Lindfield Rocks is sometimes described as high bouldering or low top roping, something for all early climbers to allow practicing most things: I used to spend sessions practicing trad gear placement there.

There is a small parking area, so you may need to park on Tryon Road. It is a short walk-in.

TRANSPORTATION
You can train it to Lindfield Train Station and walk the 1.3km down Tryon Road.

I can pick up a couple of people from Lindfield Station at say 815am.

WHEN and WEATHER:
30th December, 830AM TO 1PM, Though there’s a lot to go through and I suspect we will need to at least 2pm.

I’ll check on the weather forecast, I’ll let you know any changes. As of today showers are possible

Unless it is raining consistently, we will go ahead, notwithstanding caution and safety if deemed to be slippery and dangerous.

CLOTHING
Dress for the day.
Grippy shoes.
Bring your climbing shoes if you have them, you never know.

SUSTENANCE
We are obviously close to civilisation, but snacks, lunch and 2 litres of water are a very good idea.
As we are doing a pretend trip where we we will need to carry our selected gear in, I’d normally say watch the weight you’re having to carry in.

THE PLAN
Pretty simple.

We will cover the stuff in the Abseil Skills 2 notes.
We will Explain, demonstrate. Practice, discuss.

Our Trip Leaders will go through items as described in the Trip post; what we will do is put each skill/action in the Context of the trip that we are hypothetically doing; for example say the trip is the Grade 16 sport climb, 50 meters “Whale of a Time” at Scarborough Cliffs (https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/australia/wollongong/route/1124677161).

We would have had to hike in a couple of kms, abseil in, climb out and then hike out. AS2 and planning gear will be very relevant.

So we will start our AS2 training session in the car park as we gear up, talking about the gear we will take, why we need it and safety.

GEAR YOU NEED
Individually you will need:
Harness
Helmet
Personal Anchor System (“PAS”)

PLEASE EVERYBODY REPLY with your gear requests.

Finally
If you need to bail. Then let me know ASAP. as a courtesy.

Be on time and talk to me.
