All Day
abseiling
Join Sean and I this Saturday as we take you through the basics of abseiling at Mt Portal, and then let you implement those new skills in Jugglers canyon!
In the morning we will cover:
– Personal safety around edges
– Abseiling terminology and gear
– Preparing for an abseil
– Abseil techniques
– Belaying another abseiler
In the afternoon we plan to do Jugglers canyon. This is a great beginner canyon with a number of abseils that increase in length as you go down.

This will be a long day and a very high level of physical fitness is required. A preference will be placed on those with hiking and/or climbing experience. Please describe your current fitness level (and any relevant activities) in the description. You must be comfortable with heights over 20 meters. Please also confirm this in the description.
The club can provide the following personal gear:
Harness
Abseil device
Helmet
Gloves
Canyon pack
Please state what you need to hire in the “gear I need” section of the application. Jugglers canyon has water, but does not require a wetsuit.
A Personal gear list will be sent to approved applicants. Spots are limited, will will endeavour to have all approvals sorted by Wednesday.
Joining us on Jugglers is predicated on you confidently passing the abseil skills in the morning, it is not a given. You must be able to make your own way to our club storage facility in Camperdown near Nomad Bouldering Gym early on Saturday morning.
See you out there!
