Howdy yall, and welcome to all our new friends!
If you’ve been curious about how to get into outdoor adventures, this is the perfect place to start. Abseiling Skills 1 (AS1) is designed especially for beginners—no experience needed! We’ll teach you everything you need to know to safely and confidently abseil outdoors, and you’ll walk away with a skill that opens the door to all kinds of future trips, especially canyoneering with the club.
Here’s what you’ll learn:

How to stay safe on and around cliffs

How to identify and use abseiling equipment

How to prepare for an abseil

How to do safety checks before going over the edge

How to communicate clearly with your team

How to perform a range of abseil techniques

How to handle common abseil challenges

How to use a fireman’s belay to help keep your mates safe
When and Where
We’ll meet at Clovelly Cliffs at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 10th.
The 339 bus from Central will get you right there.
Walk through the sports field, past the hut with changerooms, and over to the cliff line by the ocean.

What to Bring

Closed, grippy shoes

Sun protection (hat, sunscreen) ** There is no shade on this cliff edge**

Hair ties or a way to tie long hair back (if you have long hair—you don’t want it caught in the rope system!)

The club will provide all the essential gear:

When signing up, please let us know in the ‘experience and skills’ box if you have any background with rope activities (none is totally fine—this session is made for newcomers!).
