Learn how to safely descend cliffs on a rope in a controlled manner at beautiful Clovelly Cliffs. This is an essential skill to learn for club trips such as canyoning, multi-pitch abseiling and climbing.

Time: 01:00pm to 5:00pm
Location: Burrows Park, Clovelly Cliffs
Who this trip is for: Beginners. This trip is a prerequisite to AS2.
What you’ll learn:
– Cliff safety in a potentially hazardous environment
– How to correctly identify all the equipment used in abseiling and related safety
– How to prepare yourself and personal equipment to abseil
– How to conduct pre-abseil safety checks
– Proper techniques and best practice through every stage of the abseiling activity
– How to effectively communicate through every stage of the abseiling activity
– How to perform a variety of abseils including common cliff features and hazards
– How to perform a safe fireman’s belay
What you’ll need:
* Comfortable and fitted long-sleeve clothes to protect you from weather and natural rock features.
* Closed-toe shoes (runners, hiking shoes or anything with grippy soles)
* Water (min 2L)
* Lunch/snacks
* Sun protection
* Small backpack for your personal items
* Money for splitting fuel/toll costs if carpooling
* NO loose-fitting clothing such as scarves or loose shirts as these have capacity to get stuck in devices
* LONG HAIR must be tied back firmly – it is not uncommon for hair to get caught in devices and this can be very painful!
All rope, safety equipment, helmets and harnesses can be provided by the club.
Medical details: If you have any medical conditions, use medications, and/or have any injuries, please let us know in your registration.
Transport: Please add if you can drive others in the comments section of your registration. There are buses from Central Station to Clovelly Beach.
This will be a fun day out. We may even see migrating whales this time of year!
