Hi everyone,
have you been on a few canyon trips now and feel like you want to start learning the ropes (pun intended)? Join Wally and I this coming weekend where we will cover key skills to help you self-manage and self-rescue, as well as basic skills for rigging abseils.
*Please read the next section carefully or you will not be accepted onto the trip*
In the signup information please include what canyoning/climbing/abseiling experience you have, including which canyons/abseils you have done.
Itinerary
Day 1:
what we will cover:
Extended rappel (3rd hand on belay loop)
French prussik
Traditional prussik
Klemheist prussik
Ascending a rope using prussiks
Setting up a dual strand isolated abseil using an isolation knot.
Assess and replace established anchors. (SERENE)
Identify safe and redundant points of safety for PAS connection.
Alpine butterfly knot
Stone knot
Barrel knot
Water knot

Joining ropes using Flat overhand knot (EDK).
Joining ropes using double fisherman’s
Transitioning between ascending and descending
Locking off device – mule hitch
Locking off device – leg wrap
end of Day 1 drive to a campsite depending on choice of activity the next day
Day 2:
Easy canyon or abseil depending on the weather where you will put your new skills to the test!
You will get the most out of this weekend if you learn the information provided above before the weekend as we would prefer to use the time to practise and correct rather than teaching knots and hitches. We will send out an email to successful applicants with this information once accepted.
preference will be given to those who are looking to start seconding trips in the future, we will also have limited car space so drivers will also be preferred.
