Hello again wanderers!

It was lovely to do some digital exploration with you last weekend. Looking forward to our next sessions.

We’re finally working with compasses this week!

For Review:

We’ll open with a few rounds of Geoguessr to warm up the brain. We’ll do a feature scavenger hunt of a topographic map for the below features – best look them up beforehand so you’ll be able to recognise them! We’ll use the same map for compass practice. I’ve attached it below. There’s more than one way to skin this cat!

  • Spur
  • Gully
  • Creek Junction
  • Knoll
  • Mountain
  • Watercourse
  • Saddle

Then we’ll discuss:

Electronic GPS (a couple in storage): phone, dedicated, multisport watch.  Will only dedicate 15 minutes as its truly device dependent (including your phone), but we’ll talk about some cool software you can use to create tracks before you venture out. I’ll generate a route in the maps area as an example.

Compass, 30min, features, pratfalls, how to use, games to play at home with them. Then we’re going to “travel” between the features we found in the map above!

Still working out some local courses for our pair work – I have insider access to some old competition maps I can set ribbons by 😉

Zoom Ya Sunday!
