Hi all,
Sam and I will be running a beginner’s trip to Empress Canyon on Sunday the 21st of Jan. This trip is aimed at people who completed AS1 the weekend prior (so they will be given priority), but anyone is welcome sign up.
Empress Canyon is a short but lovely canyon near Wentworth Falls. It only has one abseil, but it’s a nice and long one. Because of its easy access, Empress Canyon is often used by commercial groups. We’ll get started early in the morning to try avoiding these. I’m estimating a 4-hour day. REQUIREMENTS
You must:
– Have a decent level of fitness (there will be a decent amount of walking)
– Be comfortable with swimming
– Be comfortable with heights (there is a 30m abseil, as well as a few jumps into water)
– Have completed Abseil Skills 1 (or have signed up to AS1 on the 14th)
WHAT TO BRING
– Wetsuit *
– Helmet *
– Harness + PAS *
– Descender *
– Dry bag *
– Lunch + snacks
– 2+ L of water
– Closed shoes with good grip (not hiking boots)
– Swimwear/something to wear under the wetsuit
– Shorts to wear over the wetsuit (to protect it – club rules)
– Sunscreen
– A way to tie back long hair
– Change of clothes + towel for the car
*These items can be borrowed from the club.
WHEN AND WHERE
– Sunday the 21st of January
– We will meet at 8:30am (nice and early to avoid tour groups)

In the sign-up info, please list any relevant experience (none other than AS1 is ok), and whether you signed up to AS1 on the 14th or had completed it prior.
