Beginner/Intermediate Canyon – Yileen (FULL)

This Sunday join us on a trip to the dreamy Yileen canyon. There will be slides, jumps and beautiful constrictions. We’ll finish with a stunning 50 meter abseil into the Grose Valley.

This canyon will involve abseiling so AS1 or previous abseil canyoning experience is a minimum. With the much colder environment, it is essential that participants must be confident abseilers in order to maintain efficiency and prevent hypothermia.

Skills required:
– AS1 and confident with heights
– have a reasonable level of fitness, comfortable with scrambling around boulders, logs and other obstacles
– comfortable with jumping into a pool of water from a height
– are able to swim at least 50 meters unassisted
– be able to tolerate cold weather

Gear you will need (club can provide)
– Headtorch
– Helmet
– Wetsuit (Extra small , Small, Medium, Large, Extra large)
– Dry Bag
– Canyon pack
– Gloves (Small , Medium , Large )
– Descender
– 2-3 locking carabiners
– Harness
– Personal anchor system

Personal gear you will need
– Emergency blanket
– Compression bandage
– Lunch and snacks
– 2L of water
– Warm clothes
– a rain/wind jacket
– 2 sets of thermal underlayer (one for in the water and one for emergency)
– Spare pair of clothes/shoes to leave in car
– Grippy shoes/ Volley shoes (you can get them from BigW)
– Neoprene (Ideal) or wool / synthetic thick socks
– Personal Medications if necessary

– If you can offer a lift to others in car pooling

We’ll be looking for people who haven’t had much luck with previous canyoning trips, but anyone who meets the prerequisites are welcome to apply. This stunning canyon should not be missed!
