Hi all,
We will be running a Mushroom foraging skills trip at Belanglo State Forest this Sunday.
We’ll teach you how to forage and identify edible Slippery Jacks and Saffron milk caps amongst the pine plantations. These two are easy to ID and have very little look-a-likes here in Aus so they are beginner friendly. We’ll have a workshop at the beginning to show you what to look for and will double check your forage. 🙂
After collecting our bounty, we will gather together for a “how-to cook mushies to make them extra delicious” session and picnic that will hopefully invloce lotsssss of buttery, parsley-ly, and garlicky mushrooms on crusty bread and bubbly apple cider (byo).
Drivers and new members will be given priority. We will email out a carpooling spreadsheet so no worries if you don’t have a car.
The day will have a very relaxed and social vibe. We won’t be walking too far either so no need to have a huge amount of fitness. Just make sure to still have appropriate footwear and wear layers as there is lots of temperature fluctuation at Belanglo (from 5 deg at night to 22 in the day).
Pre-requisite: you must pray for rain because this week is looking pretty dry, but we want rain for better mushrooming. Must also be prepared to wake up early as it’s a long drive!
Pets are welcome to come along.
To make sure you have read this properly, let us know in the sign-up what you’re likely to bring along for our picnic lunch to share, e.g., crusty fresh sourdough bread, cheese, dark chocolate, dips n crackers, apple pie, cheesecake, salad etc – bonus points for healthy things or turkey bacon from harris farm to cook the mushrooms with!
Let me know if you have any dietary reqs too. 🙂
NB. This trip is weather dependent. We’ll have a plan B in place if the weather isn’t cooperative.
See you on the trip!
Liv, Pete, Jess and Pat
p.s. we’ll aim to accept/reject participants on Wednesday and hopefully send out an email Thurs-Fri ish to give you a couple days to sort out cars.
p.p.s. we’re hoping to run another mushroom workshop in May so keep a look out for this. 🙂
