Beginner Trip – Hat Hill Canyon

Keen to explore a beautiful Blue Mountains canyon but don’t have the abseil skills yet? This is the canyon for you! Hat Hill is a great beginner canyon with very rewarding scenery! Over mossy rocks and narrow paths we will rock scramble along the river, viewing the enchanted fern covered canyon as we go. There will be some short sections of swimming and wading, so wetsuits are recommended.
Skill required:

– have a reasonable level of fitness, comfortable with scrambling around boulders, logs and other obstacles,
– comfortable with jumping into a pool of water from a height

– are able to swim at least 50 meters unassisted

– be able to tolerate cold weather

Gear you will need (club can provide)

– Headtorch
– Helmet
– Wetsuit (Extra small , Small, Medium, Large, Extra large)

– Dry Bag
– Canyon pack

– Gloves (Small , Medium , Large )

Personal gear you will need

– Emergency blanket
– Compression bandage

– Lunch and snacks

- 2L of water

– Warm clothes
– a rain/wind jacket and/or other warm clothing (thermals, fleece etc)

– Spare pair of clothes/shoes to leave in car
– Grippy shoes/ Volley shoes (you can get them from BigW)
– Wool / Synthetic thick socks (no cotton)
– Personal Medications if necessary

When requesting to join the trip please state:

– What gear you need
– Your previous experience related to the trip
– If you can offer a lift to others in car pooling
