Bungonia Canyoning Weekend (intermediate/advanced canyoning)

Organizer:
Christopher Augood
Date/Time:
Date(s) - Saturday 27 January, 2024 - Sunday 28 January, 2024
All Day
canyoning

Bungonia Main Canyon is located in Bungonia National Park and follows the confluence of Bungonia Creek. Bungonia Creek is open, and compared to the Blue Mountains canyons, it would be better described as a gorge. The abseils are all large, with the largest drop being 65m down Bungonia Falls.

The plan is to drive down to Bungonia on Saturday (27/1/24) morning to do the canyon. We will then set up camp at Bungonia Campground. This is a fee-paying campground, so there will be a camp fee for this trip of approximately $12.50/person.

Please note that this is an intermediate/advanced canyoning trip. This requires you to have previous canyoning experience and have demonstrated being self-sufficient.

To be considered for this trip, you must meet the following criteria:

– Good level of fitness – This will be an 8–12-hour trip with steep ascents
– Confident swimmer – Should be able to swim 200m without assistance
– Comfortable at heights
– Prior canyoning/abseiling experience (and have completed abseil skills I)
– Comfortable in cold, deep water
– Comfortable carrying heavy packs

There is also the possibility to do a short hike on Sunday; this will be discussed later.

Please list your canyoning/abseiling experience in the sign-up information box to be considered for this trip.

Please note that canyon trips are susceptible to cancellation in unfavourable weather conditions. In this case, there will be a backup trip planned.
