Hello Adventurers,
Megafest, the club’s annual big weekend away, is coming up on the 14th-15th of November.
We will be running a Bushfire Recovery Tour during Megafest, on Saturday 14th. This is your chance to learn about what makes Australia such a unique and fascinating landscape. You’ll get to learn about traditional culture, Australia’s long history with bushfires and how our native flora has adapted to this, through things like epicormic growth and obligate seeding. Thanks to last year’s insane bushfire seasons, we’ll be able to see these processes happening first hand!
You’ll also get to learn about how despite fires being a natural and healthy part of Australia’s landscape, the increasing rate and intensity of these is having negative and potentially irreversible impacts on our native flora and fauna. You can find some extra info about this here:

This will be a short tour of up to 3 hours, and costs $738. Cost will depend on how many people sign up, but will likely be $30 or higher. We need to confirm booking so please sign-up asap. Make sure to bring your friends along to reduce cost per person!
The rest of the day will be filled up with various short activities so you can experience a little bit of everything. Alternatively, Susan will be running a shortish canyon afterwards for a limited number of people (possibly Empress Canyon). You will need to sign up for this separately.
These activities will be decided by you!
Let us know in the “Sign-up Information” section what kind of things you would like to do.
Some ideas:
•Twister – A rope free canyon, full of jumps and slides (if it’s hot enough, won’t even need wetsuits, though they do make sliding easier)
• Grand Canyon Loop – Classic bluies entry level hike. Must love stairs.
• Trees Adventure in Yarramundi – Rope Ladders and Flying Foxes
• Jenolan Caves
• Yoga in a place not normally conducive to zen (crow pose at Pulpit Rock, anyone?)
• Glow worm tours
• Jellybean pools
• Any hike, but bring along guides to vegetation or sketchbooks and set aside time to study what we find
• Tourist trap trio – scurry around Scenic World, Pulpit Rock, and Wentworth Falls, short flat walks with great views and photo ops.
• Deliciousness at Mountain High Pies in Wentworth (almost a requirement)
• More ethical eco-minded business, like an arvo with a bushcare or crag -care group (definitely combined with pies)
• Visit Blue Mountains Botanical Gardens (might even have the opportunity to buy some plants)
Whatever you can think of that we can get to and fill out the rest of the day with.
We will post a separate trip for the afternoon activities so watch out for the email and sign up asap!
You don’t have to be participating in the entirety of Megafest to join. Camping before/after is completely optional and we’ll likewise decide on accommodation in coming days.
