Hi all,

Capertee Valley Landcare are hosting a tree planting weekend. A bunch of us went to the last one a few months ago. It was an absolutely beautiful and wholesome weekend full of activities.

You can find all of the important details about it and register here:
https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/habitat-restoration-in-the-beautiful-capertee-valley-registration-413240402167

This is not a UTS OAC event, but we’d love to gather a group of us to represent our club and give back to the environment we get so much out of!

The purpose of this activity post is to help organise carpool. Please sign-up to the event and write in the “sign-up info” box whether you are happy to drive other up, how much people you can fit (including their gear), or if you need a lift. Please also note down whether you plan on arriving Friday night or Saturday morning. I won’t be accepting people looking for a lift until others have signed up who can drive so once you are accepted, please register for the event using the link above (don’t wait to be contacted by me). As a passenger, you will need to bring some cash with you to help reimburse the driver for fuel and tolls.

The main activities are on Saturday so if you have another thing happening on Sunday, you could always leave very early Sunday to go to your next destination. I’m debating going to Improvised Rope Rescue on Sunday so if you plan on doing that, please let me know in the sign-up info box!

Other details:
✒You will be responsible for organising your own food (last time we had some kitchen facilities but I’m not sure if those will be available again).
✒There are showers and toilets at the campground.
✒Tree planting supplies will be provided, but you will need to bring all of the usual personal camping things. If you need a tent, sleeping bag or sleeping mat etc, please say so when you sign-up and we can probably arrange something.

If you feel like reading more, here is what happened last time:

We arrived Friday night with a campfire already going.

On Saturday, we shuffled down to the tree planting area, where we were part of the most majestic welcome to country smoke ceremony ever. We then learnt all how to plant the tree saplings, and install cages to protect them from feral pigs, as well as learnt about endangered birds in the area. We then spent the rest of the sunlight getting our hands dirty, planting our tree babies. After getting back, we were treated with a lovely catered dinner, and then gathered around the campfire for some chats.

On Sunday, we went on a walk nearby where we were able to pick the brains of our new landcare and local land services friends. We then had lunch at a local cafe/store that someone (me) got a bit carried away buying locally made products and produce from! Our little uts oac’s group’s adventure then got extended when we were invited to visit one of the landcare coordinator’s friend’s property! There, we were shown all of his animals, got to try some carob, and were able to bought freshly made goat cheese for a bargain price.

It sounds like this upcoming weekend will be quite similar and just as magical.
