caving

Hello all!

I will be running a caving trip with Sydney Speleological Society (SSS) in August to go into some of the wild caves in the Wombeyan region. Unlike Bungonia or Wee Jasper, Wombeyan is an area that requires permits from NSW Parks to access, and are normally provided only to established caving clubs.

For anyone who has been to Wee Jasper or Bungonia, the caves in Wombeyan are more active than either of these areas and have large formations in some areas, and in general present a different style of cave to what you may have seen previously.

As part of coming on this trip, it will be a requirement that you register as a member of SSS to be covered under their insurance policy, as this trip is run under their club and a condition of the permits are that only club members may enter the caves. A one-off temporary membership for a trip is $30, which if you wish to become a full member can be credited towards the full membership cost.

If you are new to caving, or are interested in giving it a go, I would highly recommend this trip as a starting point. We will not be going into any significantly tight or precarious areas, and you will see caves that would otherwise be impossible to get access to. Helmets and overalls can be provided via SSS if required.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Thanks,
Sam
