hiking
G’day All,
Sean and I are going to do an overnight hike, camping on top of Donkey Mountain in the Wolgan Valley
Donkey Mountain has been described as “bushwalker heaven” the summit is a labyrinth of fractured pagodas, with countless mini-canyons and caves to explore. If you’re not convinced, take a look at this sketch map!

This walk is a good introduction to off-track hiking, it is moderately challenging with some very steep sections but overall the distance is quite short, and really depends on how much exploring you do at the top.
Be warned, Donkey Mountain was hit very hard by the 2019-20 fires, so we’re expecting a lot of scrubby regrowth, but hopefully this is mainly contained on the sides of the mountain.
Pre-requisites
– Previous hiking experience – if I don’t know you, then let us know when signing up
– Fit enough to carry an overnight pack up a very steep hill – approx. 400m elevation gain
– Confident to do some easy rock scrambling
– Promise not to complain too much during the really scrubby sections
Let us know if you need a tent, sleeping bag, camp mat, and/or overnight hiking pack,
these can all be borrowed from the club
