We’re amping up the club’s rogaining efforts for 2021! This is an expression of interest for club members keen to try an 8hr or 24hr competitive event in The Deceptive Lands National Rogaine Championships in South Australia; leading through our land’s beautiful arid wilderness and desert.
Join James Carr, Jessica Sanders and James Millar as we hit the hills.
Still to be worked out are the teams, whether we extend the event for a roadtrip around the outback, and whether folks want to do the 8hr or 24hr event – but we recommend the 24hr given the big commitment of interstate travel.
=WHAT IS ROGAINING?=
Rogaining is the team sport of long-distance navigation – hiking through wilderness and/or urban areas with nothing more than a compass and a printed map. No phones allowed. Hit as many checkpoints as fast as you can, collect points and beat the other teams!
This is an event which will cater to club members who have a good level of endurance fitness or rogaining/navigation experience. Please mention when registering whether you are a beginner or experienced navigator.
In the 24hr option you can still stop and camp if you don’t want to walk overnight!

Starts midday on Sat 29th May ’21, and ends midday on Sun 30th May ’21. Most people like to arrive the night before.
We’ll likely take the day off either side of the event to make it a long weekend, or even add a longer optional extended road trip around SA.
A mix of hills, desert, scrub, eroded creek beds and bushland tracks. Many, many choices of route to take.
The venue for the 2020-21 Australian Rogaining Championship is within the Goyder Council, at Bri Glen Springs approximately 80kms north of Burra and 25kms east of Whyte Yarcowie. It’s roughly 3.5hrs from Adelaide.
Please sign up here on the club site only. Club entries will close a few days before the official event website, and then I (JC) will do the official registrations for you on your behalf.
$130/ adult registration for rogaine
$110/ concession registration for rogaine
The entry fee includes Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast and Sunday lunch at the Hash House.
$35 / $70 optional bus one-way/return from Airport or Adelaide city to the event.
$10 optional extra meals (e.g. Saturday brekkie)
$180 typical return flight from Sydney, at time of writing. This will go up the longer we wait.
Depending on the amount of interest, we can have separate teams. If you wish to establish your own team with your buddies, let me know and indicate your desired team name, or otherwise I will pair you up with a team based on ability.
Fitness level: average to high – entirely up to your team how hard or cruisey a route you take.
Mobility/Access: Full mobility
Every team will have at least one UTS trip leader.

The club can also provide camping gear, tents and cooking equipment if needed.
