canyoning

Update: 2 new spots opened up as of the 5th of September.

Hi all,

Ollie and I are running a trip to Wounded Knee Canyon on the weekend of the 21st/22nd of September. It’ll still be cold, so we chose this canyon because it’s relatively dry.

That doesn’t mean it’s easy. It will be off-track, and the walk-out is very long and steep, so you need good fitness. Also, the last abseil is potentially 80m, meaning we might have to either pass knots or multi-pitch abseil – we will assess on the day.

Here’s the plan:

Day 1 (21st): We will drive up to the Hollow Rock parking spot nice and early, head out and do the canyon. We will bring camping stuff (personally won’t take a tent), and camp on the Colo at the end of the day.

Day 2 (22nd): We’ll walk up the Colo to the exit track and hopefully get back to the cars at a reasonable time.

This plan is subject to change depending on weather (both temperature and rain) and water levels on the Colo.

In the signup description, make sure to convince me you have enough rope experience and fitness for this trip. Also, if you have a 4X4 or a car that is good off-road, jot that down too, as the road to get there might not be amazing.
