SRT Canyon Training Weekend for Trip Leaders led by Nat and Susan with assistance from Toby and Nam.

A full weekend of canyon training practicing SRT rigging techniques and canyon efficiency.
Starting Friday night til Sunday EOD.
Please do not sign up if you only want to attend 1 day.
We will prioritize the trip for club leaders, who intend to run canyon-roped trips for the club in the future and to pass on skills learned.

Saturday Morning Theory and afternoon practice in Box Creek Canyon
Sunday Canyon – Either Dione Dell/Kalang/Kanangra/ depending on the group’s abilities.

Please bring:
– Camping Gear, food, and water for the weekend.
We will not be collecting club camping for participants due to the group canyon gear
the leaders will be taking.
– Wetsuit, helmet, whistle, and good grippy canyon shoes.
– SRT abseil device (figure-8 style device with horns).
– Plain Fig.8, locking carabiners x6, locking quickdraws
– Harness that has at least 2 gear loops, one on each side + PAS.
– Large Canyon Pack (at least than 45L), that can pack in 60mtr ropes.
– Other SRT gear discussed in the Intro to SRT workshop, eg. ascending gear, VT
prusiks, slings, autoblocks, canyon knife, gloves.
– First Aid kit

Make sure you can source all these items before signing up.

Fitness requirements:
Kanangra Canyons have large exposed abseils up to 50m plus, are steep, and are long days, you will be expected to carry 60-meter canyon ropes over 2 days and scramble up steep ascents.
Good fitness is required for both days.

The trip is highly weather-dependent, it will be postponed or relocated depending on weather conditions.

Further Notes:
@Red Imlay Club Canyon packs are too small and not suitable for SRT run canyons.
@The club has limited large canyon packs, only 2. Please source a large eg 45l pack that can drain holes. Otherwise, you will be carrying rope bags separately throughout the canyon – not ideal.
@Club canyon harness with seat only has 1 gear loop – not suitable for leaders.
@Please state what canyons you have recently done in the sign and if you are a club leader.
@Kanangra canyons are quartzite rock and can get very slippery as compared to Blue Mountain canyons.
@No Whistle, no canyon.
