Looking to take your climbing to the next level? UTSOAC has been offered a spectacular opportunity by one of our former club presidents to train our members in outdoor lead climbing

This will be a one-day activity, likely based out of Slab World up in the Blue Mountains. In addition to being our former club president, the trainer for this activity is certified through the Australian Climbing Instructors Association (ACIA) and other agencies, as well as having spectacular local knowledge of many of the crags located around Sydney and the Blue Mountains. This training is generously being provided to UTSOAC free of charge in order to help develop the next generation of climbers in Australia.

We will be taking a maximum of 8 students for this trip. Priority will go to those who have been in the club for more than 12 months and are interested in actively developing their skills as a climber. Registration is open to both trip leaders and non trip leaders, so if you are interested please sign up.

Requirements:
All participants must be able to:
Demonstrate cliff top and bottom safety
Tie-in using a rethreaded figure-8 knot
Have climbed using a top rope system
Be able to top-rope belay using a ATC-style device

If you have completed RS1 or an equivalent course, you will be able to meet these requirements. The course will cover safety and safely belaying lead climbers, setting up protection using existing bolted infrastructure, setting up and cleaning anchors, and basic self-rescue techniques. Completing this course will provide evidence of experience for RS2, and Rock Skills – Lead Climbing in terms of club endorsements.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact me via email.
