All Day
canyoning
Hello Adventurers,
So you just learnt how to abseil? Now it’s time to put it into practice in a cool abseil canyon – Lower Bowen Creek North Canyon @ Mount Wilson, Blue Mountains
The weather for Sunday is forecast to be very hot, it is the perfect time to go canyoning.
This whole day trip requires 4 abseils of up to 15 metres.
Eligible members need to fulfil the following criteria:
• Confidently and independently abseil with an Eight device, such as Crittr or Petzl Piranha.
• Have a good fitness level; you are expected to carry your gear and wetsuit in your pack throughout the trip, and hike up some steep hills. About an 1 hour walk in and walk out.
• Can swim in deep cold water for up to 50 metres with a backpack
• Canyons are nature’s obstacle courses – thus you will need to be able to scramble around boulders, traverse or slide through creeks and perform jumps into pools of water.
You will also need to bring along the following essential personal items.
• Grippy rubber shoes – such as Dunlop volleys from Big W-Kmart.
• Woollen socks and thermal top (no cotton items as these will not insulate you from the cold)
• Light rain jacket (to aid warmth)
• Lunch, snacks and at least 2 litres of water
• Harness, safety line, descender, helmet, canyon pack, drybag, headtorch, and full wetsuit.
• Spare pair of shorts to be worn over the wetsuit for protection.
• Spare change of dry clothes to be left at the car.
• Sun protection
• Petrol Money for your drivers
The Club can provide you with a Harness and safety line, descender, helmet, canyon pack, dry bag, and wetsuit should you require them.
Everything else you must have at the start of the trip.
We have limited car spaces, priority will be given to those with cars and completed abseil skills 1.
Note, Trip condition: we will meet at Club Storage in Camperdown at 7.30 am to collect gear and depart together.
We will also return to storage to check in gear at the end of the trip.
Please do not sign up if you cannot meet this criteria.
See you on the trip,
Susan and Andrew.
