Megafest Saturday – Get to the Point, Malaita! Beginner Abseil
Want that adrenaline rush hopping down a mountain cliff? Malaita point is a fantastic abseil overlooking the famous 3 Sisters and Mount Solitary. This is a multi pitch abseil with long exposed drops but without too many tricky sections. This trip is suitable for beginners who have done Abseil Skills 1 and feel confident abseiling. Malaita Point is next to Malaita Wall abseil- this is the easier of the 2. There are 6 abseils, 38m being the longest. After we reach the bottom we will be at the Federal Pass walking track. From here we either walk back up the Furber Steps for a good work out (the option I am taking), or if the scenic railway is running then you are welcome to go the easy (and slightly expensive) way.

Must have done Abseil Skills 1
Must be comfortable with heights and cliff exposure

2+ Litres water
sturdy closed in shoes with grip
personal first aid kit if you have
sunscreen and hat
rain jacket (also good for wind protection)
warm clothes (incase the weather becomes cold)c
Abseiling Gear (club can provide)
Descender and carabiner (eg atc, rap rack)
Harness
Helmet

If you plan to camp as part of Megafest, please register in the “Megafest Overnight Organisation” event. We will head to Cathedral Campground after the trip on Saturday but can drop people to the train station if they are not camping with us.
