canyoning
Hi Members,
This is an intermediate canyon and suitable for people who are confident in abseiling and who have done some prior canyoning.
The canyon trip consists of:
- Tricky crack abseils – x3 Abseils up to 15m in length.
- Long swims down the Wollangambe river.
- Trip length car to car: 6-8 hours depending on group.
- Due to bushfires, anticipating the track to be non-existent. Therefore navigation is required and possibly some bush bashing.
Fitness and skills requirements:
@Able to swim in deep cold water up to 100 metres or more in deep cold water.
@ Can hike in and out steep sections for at 2 hours plus with a heavy canyon pack.
@ Be able to do water jumps
@ Be able to scramble over large boulders and rocks.
@ Be able to abseil confidently.

The club can provide waterproof torches, wetsuits, helmets, dry bags and canyon packs, and belay device. Please advise what you need.
Personal items to bring:
- Lunch, snacks, at least 2 litres of water.
- Woollen or thermal socks a must!
- Grippy rubber shoes (ie.Volleys from Target or Kmart)
- Old Shorts to protect wetsuit bottoms.
- If you feel sensitive to cold rivers, please bring additional thermal tops and bottoms.
- Light packable rain or spray jacket
- Spare change of dry clothes
- Waterproof Head-torch
- Small first-aid kit and an emergency blanket (essential)
- Hat and Sunscreen
- Petrol money for the driver.
- Good sense of adventure!
Please note: Do not bring Cotton clothes or sock into the canyon as it draws away heat from the body and therefore not a good insulator.
Canyon trips are subject to cancellation or postponement is the weather is not suitable for the day.
Spots are limited. to 6 places.
Registration will open on Sunday, to give you time to decide which of the many trips you want to join.
