hiking
Do you like stars? Do you like overnight hikes? Do you like deep conversations into the life of the universe that trigger an existential crisis when you really didn’t want one?? If you answered yes, yes and yes to those questions then I have a trip for you!
Join Germán, Niamh and myself for an overnight hike in the Warrumbungle National Park on the weekend of 19-21 May. The Warrumbungle NP is an internationally recognised dark sky reserve, known for having some of the clearest skies in the whole world far away from city lights. It is also conveniently scheduled to be a new moon on Saturday night, which means epic stargazing opportunity (weather permitting). So bring your camera, eyes and sense of wonder. It will get quite cold there at night at around 5°C, so be prepared for that as well.
The plan is to drive up on Friday night (note: it is a long drive at around 6hr (500KM) from Sydney, be prepared!) and camp at Pincham campground at the start of the hike, so we can get an early start on Saturday morning. We then walk for approx 12KM to the next campground, Danu camp, via the Grand Tops lookout (potentially Bluff Mountain too if there’s time). Sunday morning is another early start by climbing the nearby Mt Exmouth to see some amazing landscapes, then begin the journey down towards the end along the firetrail. Should be back in Sydney around 9PM Sunday night.
This adventure requires a moderate level of fitness as there are some steep sections and you will be carrying a heavy backpack. Overnight hiking experience is NOT required for this trip but previous day hiking experience is, please fill out your past experience in the form.
Those with cars will have priority.
