G’day folks. Sean and I are planning to head down south to the Budawangs for an overnight hike. We’ll be summiting The Castle, and exploring Monolith Valley.
This is one of my favourite areas to hike in. The views are spectacular, the terrain is challenging, and the rock formations are really unique.
It is going to be a difficult walk. There’s some significant elevation gain (about 800m), and the climb to the top of The Castle requires a lot of exposed scrambling. We’ll be leaving on Friday night and camping down near the start of the walk, then returning to Sydney late Sunday night.
To join this hike you’ll need:
– Previous hiking experience (it’s ok if you’re new to overnight hiking)
– Not scared of heights, and comfortable with scrambling
– Good level of fitness, you’ll need to be able to carry a heavy pack with all your camping gear up and down steep hills for 2 days
– Available to leave Friday night. It’s a 4 hour drive to The Budawangs
Let us know if you need a tent, sleeping bag, camp mat, and/or overnight hiking pack,
these can all be borrowed from the club
