first aid training
Be able and confident in your ability to respond if things don’t go to plan!
Anyone spending time in the outdoors in NSW in the sorts of environments we love, such as canyons, caves, rivers and crags should complete a Remote First Aid certification to ensure they are prepared to handle medical emergencies in isolated environments. The things we do often take place far from immediate medical help, where ambulance access may be delayed or impossible. Getting Remote First Aid training equips you with the skills to assess and manage injuries or illnesses until professional help arrives, which can be critical in saving lives.
For trip leaders, reimbursement for completing Remote First Aid is available on completing the course and prerequisites. There are upcoming training courses that we want to make club members aware of, and if you are interested in attending one of these courses please register directly with the training provider. Please note there are other providers that offer this course, these are just two that we have found that are offering these courses in the coming months.
Remote First Aid goes beyond standard first aid by covering scenarios specific to the outdoors, such as snake bites, fractures, hypothermia, and dehydration. Participants learn to improvise with limited resources, communicate effectively in emergencies, and make decisions under pressure.
In Australia, where bushwalking, camping, and adventure sports are popular, the risks are real—completing this course is a responsible step for anyone regularly exploring nature. It not only protects the individual but also ensures the safety of the group, making it an strongly recommended qualification for all club members.
