Howdy yall, ready to step outside and learn how to climb real rock?

Rock Skills 1 is the perfect starting point for anyone wanting to jump into outdoor climbing. This beginner-friendly session is all about getting you comfortable on real rock, teaching you the core skills you’ll need to safely join future climbing trips with the club. No experience needed—just bring your sense of adventure!

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • How to put on a harness and helmet properly

  • How to tie the essential knots for climbing

  • How to belay your partner safely

  • How to communicate clearly between climber and belayer

  • How to climb efficiently and with good technique

  • How to manage safety at a crag

  • How to handle common challenges and keep calm on the wall

When and Where

We’ll meet at Bangor West Crag at 9:00 am on Sunday, 11th May.

What to Bring

  • Closed, grippy shoes (climbing shoes if you have them, runners work fine if you don’t)

  • Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing

  • Sun protection (hat, sunscreen)

  • Snacks and lunch

  • Plenty of water

  • Hair ties or a way to tie back long hair

What Can Be Rented

The club will provide all climbing gear:

  • Helmets

  • Harnesses

  • Belay devices
    Feel free to bring your own gear if you have it!

Sign-Up Info

When signing up, let us know in the ‘experience and skills’ box if you have any climbing background (none is totally fine—this is a beginners session!).
