G’day adventurers,
Ready for the next step with your rock-craft knowledge? By now you should have a handle on whether knots drive you knuts, or whether you’re the fearless and gearless sort that’d rather leave ropes and lockers at the shop. If you’re the former, this course will lay the foundations for more advanced climbing activities, like sport climbing (lead), trad, and multi-pitching.
Rock Skills 2 is a skills trip with a specific focus on anchor evaluating, building, and cleaning. It’s also the start of most club members engaging more actively in their own ability to evaluate and mange risk. Your education will be less rote and more principles and practically based from this point — expect to have to study and practice these things. You aren’t guaranteed to pass just by attending.
Because actual climbing isn’t necessary to be evaluated on the curriculum (and because I am fully over cancelling/postponing), this activity will proceed rain or shine (with exceptions, knowing Australia).
We will cover:
– Safety & risk management, route/rock assessment
– Basic anchor theory
– Anchor gear and selection
– Setting up an anchor
– Cleaning a sport anchor
