All Day
canyoning

Hi Folks,

*PLEASE NOTE: We changed this canyon to Dalpura due to weather conditions. Notes on Dalpura are here: https://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/dalpura.htm

Ronny, Suhail and I will be heading to Rocky & Twister, an awesome canyon up in Newness. See the track notes here https://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/twister.htm and here https://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/rocky_creek.htm.

PLEASE NOTE: This canyon has no abseils, but many jumps, slides, scrambles etc. – the usual sort of canyoning fun. You should be able to swim, tolerate the cold, jump from boulders into the water and be cool around snakes ๐Ÿ˜‰ If I don’t know you personally, please outline your canyoning / abseiling / climbing/ hiking experience in the field below.

What to expect:
– Some creek walking through the canyon
– Many cold swims
– Jumps and slides into the water
– Steep hike out

Prerequisites:
– You have to be comfortable swimming in cold water
– You should not be afraid of heights
– You should have a good level of fitness to carry a heavy backpack and hike uphill without holding back the group)

What the club can provide:
– Canyoning gear: wetsuits, canyon packs, drybags, gloves, helmets

What you need to bring:
1. Grippy shoes (dunlop volleys are great, but you can bring any grippy shoes that you donโ€™t mind using in the water; shoes should be closed โ€“ no flip-flops!)
2. Woolen socks
3. Wind-proof jacket (nylon rain or spray jacket) + dry thermals in the dry bag
4. Food for the day and 2-3L of water
5. Old shorts to protect the wetsuit
6. Dry clothes and shoes to change into after we walk out of the canyon
7. Any thermals / underwear you wear under the wetsuit (preferably synthetic not to make you cold)
8. Emergency blanket (can be bought from Officeworks or outdoors stores)
9. Headtorch
10. Personal First Aid Kit, with mandatory snake bandages
*HINT: any of the above can be bought really cheaply from K-Mart / Target / Chemist Warehouse.
**NOTE: if you get cold easily, consider bringing hand/toe warmers, sugar sachets, a small hiking stove and mandatory spare thermals and windproof jacket.

Preference will be given to those who can bring a car. We usually share petrol cost among carpooling participants.

In case the weather does not allow for safe canyoning, we may convert the trip to a hike.

Best regards,
Marta, Ronny and Suhail
