climbing leader training skills workshop

** Registrations for this event will be open two weeks before each session to prevent people booking too far in advance **

We have access to the North Sydney Scout Hall this year on the second Tuesday of each month for those who are interested in some ongoing training or practice. This will be an opportunity to practice any rope skills/knots that you want to work on. This will be a particularly beneficial opportunity for Trip Leaders to practice hauls and complex rope skills that you don’t regularly use and want to practice. It is also an excellent opportunity for those who attended the SRT workshop to practice their SRT skills. At the hall there are spaces to practice anchor building, ascending/descending/moving between rope, hauling, and other rope-related skills.

For those who are new or less confident with rope skills, or unsure where to start, we will also have a limited number of spaces for both knot workshops, as well as a prussiking workshop. Please put down in your registration if you are interested on one of these so we can ensure we have Trip Leaders available to help run sessions.

Directions

We’ll be at the 1st North Sydney Scout Hall, 1 Munro St, McMahons Point. For those driving, there are limited off-street parking spaces available. For those coming via public transport, it is a ~15 minute walk from the Waverton Train station, which is on the T1 and T9 train lines. Directions from Waverton Station to 1NS Scout Hall

Knot Workshop

For those who are new to rope skills, we’ll be able to run a basic knot workshop. Depending on the knowledge of the people in the group, we’ll cover one or multiple of some of the more common knots, how to tie them, and where we use them for different rope activities:

  • Munter
  • Clove Hitch
  • Figure of 8
  • Alpine Butterfly
  • Double Fisherman’s
  • Water Knot/Tape Knot
  • Prussick Knot
  • Figure of 8 on a bight
  • Barrel Knot
  • Overhand

Prussiking Workshop

For people who have completed AS1 or RS and are interested in progressing their knowledge, we will have a few spots available to run a prussiking workshop for those who are interested too. This will cover off a few different types of prussik knot, how they are used and give you an opportunity to try out using prussiks to ascend and descend a rope.

Registration

This event is for members only.
