canyoning
Hi all,
On the 4th of April, Nat and I will be venturing through Sarcophagus Canyon. This canyon is dry (no wetsuits) and has 7 abseils up to 25m. It’s not a popular canyon, so the walk in and out will involve some bush bashing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
⁃ Good fitness – there’ll be lots of walking to and from the canyon, including quite a bit of uphill. It’s likely to be a 8-hour day, car-to-car.
⁃ Rock scrambling experience – canyoning always involves scrambling over and around wet, slippery rocks. If you haven’t done much like it before, it’ll be very slow and tiring.
⁃ AS1.
⁃ Please list your experience (any canyons/challenging hikes you’ve done recently) in your signup.
THE PLAN:
– Following the track notes on ropewiki, we’ll meet at the Pierce’s pass picnic area carpark at 8:30am, leave a car there, and drive to the Mt Wilson Rd turnoff where we’ll start.
⁃ We’ll exit by traversing the cliff line to Pierce’s Pass and exiting as for Yileen.
– expected finish: around 5:30pm.
GEAR:
You will need canyoning gear. The club can provide:
⁃ Canyon Pack (though you could probably just use a normal hiking pack since it’s dry)
⁃ Dry Bag (just in case)
⁃ Helmet
– Harness + PAS
– Gloves
Please copy-paste any of the above items you need into the ‘Gear I need’ box. You also need:
⁃ Lunch + snacks
⁃ 2+L of water
⁃ Grippy, non-waterproof shoes
⁃ Sun protection
⁃ A change of clothes + towel for the car
Hope to see you there!
Cheers,
Zen & Nat
